Sandfire has been hosting UWA’s Woolnough Society (Geology Society) for a site tour at our DeGrussa Operations since 2016, with the aim of supporting the next generation of geologists towards careers within the mining industry.
After recent COVID interruptions, Roseanna Dale and our Mine Geology team were pleased to host the students once again for a site visit, who for many it was their first time underground and on an active mine site.
The tour began with an underground trip, visiting an empty stope and a freshly fired high grade ore heading. The group then spent time with the Metallurgy team at the processing plant, which was followed by a visit to the core farm with the Exploration Geologists. Here the group were able to view interesting diamond core from the DeGrussa and Monty orebodies.
The students had a fantastic time and were delighted with the level of knowledge passed on from all departments on site.
